I want a time machine.

That is all.

I hear you. I want the last two years back. I've fallen behind in so many ways since then...

Good luck with your first week!

Thanks, Holmes. I'll need it for this week and many after.
My schedule today: Wake up at 5am, be at work by 6am. Work till 6pm. Almost an hour commute home (it's a 25-minute drive), make/buy some shitty dinner, make some shitty lunch for tomorrow, do a little more work, try to be in bed by 9pm so I can do it all again tomorrow. Rinse and repeat 187 more times. WTF.

I have to admit -- I checked this blog again tonight just to see how the first day went. It sounds like it's going to be rough going for a while but ultimately worth it. I'm most surprised by the commute, but I suppose it makes sense. How are the students? You should vent on this blog.

I should just subscribe to this blog's feed! That, and I'll check out the song link once I'm at an actual computer.

I told my parents this:
This is a list of some of my students' first names, for interest's sake (and this is excluding the Quanesha's, Taquanda's, etc.):

Majestic
Loreal
Rmani (like Armani)
Satin
Justice
Dijonaise (mustard & mayonaisse = dijonaise?)

Kind of just makes you wonder...

To answer your question, Thom, the students mostly seem all right. Quite a few seem really tough on the outside, which is annoying, but hopefully they'll loosen up. I had a girl in class today who was sitting there, arms crossed, and it was around the beginning of class. I smiled really big at her and she just kind of scowled at me. I asked her if she was okay or if she was having a bad day. She said no. So I said, "You don't want to smile?" And she said no. I just said, "Yikes" and walked away. A few kids like that... who knows why. Probably just don't want to show that they're anything other than tough. Oh well.

First of all, those are some awesome names. My mom comes across all sorts of interesting names at her preschool.

Secondly, I'm not at all surprised at the students' tough exterior. If you can soften them up a little and reduce apathy, I think you will have achieved an admirable feat.

Finally, we should probably not blog too much about your students; you never know who's reading...

I thought about that last part, too. I agree. For the sake of this blog, I will admit that my real name is Cal Boffton.

Cal! You're giving yourself away! It'd be cooler if your name were Biff instead...
