Electioneering

I am really concerned.

Based on the stats, there weren't many young people at the polls today. What's up with that?

Huckabee is one of the most religious candidates I've ever seen, and yet he's surprising everyone.

McCain might pose a problem for the Democrats since he's a bit liberal.

And, finally, as I waited in line to fill out my ballot, I noticed the people around me who were also waiting to vote. I couldn't help but think most were Republican. And I certainly noticed that all of them were white and old. Granted, this is symptomatic of my region, but I still got this sense from everybody that this country isn't ready for Obama or Clinton. I mean, people are saying the evangelical vote is sizeable and it matters this year! What the f**k? I guess I've forgotten who else lives in America...

If it makes you feel any better about oldies and their republican tendencies, when I went to vote the registrars were all old and we had some short banter. I said I was voting democratically and one of them said "good," almost like they were a political Waldorf and Statler from the Muppets. I said, "Aren't you supposed to vote republican if you're old?" And he assured me that that was not the case.

Also, the young vote never shows up. I'm convinced that we suck. Every year it's 25% despite rumors that we're really gonna show up this year. Don't be surprised if that never changes.

Gobama?

I just read an article in ad age that at least tries to show some progress in getting young people to vote- since candidates are finally getting on these "my space" and "face booked" sites, young people are actually paying a little more attention. Hard to say whether more young voters will turn out, but of those under 30, a high percentage are getting their information online.
